Everglades National Park is one of my favorite national parks to visit. It is the largest tropical wilderness in the United States. It is also the third largest national park in the contiguous United States. I love how I can visit the park without having to drive for too long. It is split with a northern section that you access through Miami or Everglades City and southern section that you access through Homestead.

I try to visit the Florida Everglades once a year, if not more.

I always take a camera or maybe two with me. I want to be able to capture all of its beauty like alligators, birds, cypress trees, mangroves and much more. My GoPro Camera is usually mounted on my Peak Design Capture which is attached to my bag. The bag I used that day is the Peak Design EveryDay Backpack. The GoPro will film my walks as I photograph using my Nikon DSLR Camera.

A lot of these photos are from the main entrance of the park in Homestead, FL. There are several hiking, walking, and canoe trails, as well as campsites. If you visit one of the visitor centers, you can look at the maps and find out more about each one. They tell you the level of difficulties each trail is, meaning how far of a distance and estimate length of time they take.

This is the largest Mahogany Tree in the United States. I think that it just so awesome that the Everglades National Park has this. I was actually super happy to hear about it that I had to go see it in person and you know, take photos.

Tuesdays Together Miami had their first meeting June of 2015. It was just one month after the Rising Tide Society hosted its first set of meetups. I went to my first meeting in October of 2015. It was absolutely amazing. I found out about it because I saw 2 friends of mine, a photographer and a graphic designer, in a group photo together on Instagram and Facebook. After that, I joined and never looked back.

Our neighbor by chapter is the Tuesdays Together Fort Lauderdale. We have done a Tuesdays Together Miami + Fort Lauderdale joint quarterly meetings together. There was one in which we had the Rising Tide Co-Founder & Head of Community at Honeybook, Natalie Franke. It was absolutely amazing to meet her in person. She’s one of the reasons this community came about along with the co-founders that helped create it.

Camera Bags – Finding the right one

Where do I begin? There are so many types and options of camera bags for all the various cameras like point-and-shoot, entry DSLR, Pro DSLR, action, drones and more. 

The majority types of bags I will be talking about will fit a full frame DSLR Nikon. It doesn’t mean that you won’t find a brand that makes one for your style camera. The manufacturers will have smaller and larger camera bags to fit other types of cameras as well.

I’m going to talk about the various brands and kinds of Camera Bags and what to look for when searching. Once you get your camera, the next thing you need to figure out is how you will carry it. It needs padding to be protected when it is inside a bag, case, etc. Many brands have removable and adjustable dividers. Those come in handy so you can customize how your gear will fit inside, especially the size of the body and lens. Typical types of bags are: shoulder, sling, messenger, backpack, toploading, duffle, totes, hard cases, purses and roller. I’ve used and owned almost each type. They each have a purpose, style and location to be used at. I haven’t settled on just one as I go on different adventures from photographing a family or mom-to-be to exploring the National Parks to walking along the beautiful beaches in Florida.

Are you looking for a purse that can carry your camera? Well you’re in luck as they make them.

A purse camera bag is nice as it is fashionable and doesn’t look like a typical bag. You can wear them when you dress up; when you are working an event or wedding; or just a day out on the town and want to take photos. Here are a few brands: Kelly Moore Bag, Jo Totes (Johansen), ONA, Think Tank PhotoLily Deanne, Jill-E Designs and Shutterbag. I personally love the Kelly Moore Bag Mimi (discontinued) and Jo Totes Missy. I’ve had my eyes on the Kelly Moore The Libby 2.0 and The Kate 2.0.

Peak Design EveryDay Sling

Next up are sling camera bags. These have one strap that you sling across your back and can quickly swing in front of you to access your camera with ease and quick access. Some allow you to use on either shoulder but a lot work while carrying on your left shoulder then you can swing in front of you on your right. The list of brands can be quite long but I’ll be mentioning the ones I’ve looked at online or personally used or own: LowePro, Peak Design, Tamrac, Think Tank Photo, Mindshift, Manfrotto, Mountainsmith, Pacsafe, Tenba, Timbuk2, Vanguard, and more. My favorite are: LowePro Slingshot, LowePro Passport, Peak Design Everyday Sling, Think Tank Photo Turnstyle. Each of those have different sizes available, depending on how much gear like lenses, bodies and accessories you want to carry.

Backpacks, what can I say about backpacks… there are quite a lot of choices of backpack camera bags out there from the everyday look to hiking to fashionable.

They even make padded inserts that can go inside them so you can use an every day book bag and carry your camera. Theses brands all make some: LowePro, Peak Design, Tamrac, Think Tank Photo, Mindshift, Manfrotto, and more. Padded inserts: Kattee, S-Zone, Tenba, and others. Atlas Packs Athlete and Atlas Packs Adventure are great for carrying a lot of gear and for hiking. Peak Design Every Day Backpack doesn’t look like a camera bag which is great. If you like to travel, Peak Design has a backpack with various pouches that is great for traveling. It is their Travelline Backpack.

Shoulder bags and messenger bags are other types. They basically just sit on either shoulder. Brands like LowePro, Tamrac, Think Tank Photo, Mindshift, Manfrotto, and many others make them in various shapes and sizes. The messenger bags usually can carry a larger laptop, depending on its size. Shoulder bags sometimes have a dedicated spot for small tablet or laptop. They can be a quick and casual to grab when you want to go light.

Full Cold Moon December 2018

The last full moon of 2018 happened on December 22, 2018. It is also referred to as the full cold moon or just cold moon as it happens on the first day of Winter.

Winter Solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year. It happened on December 21st, 2018 at 5:28pm EST. The moon was almost full at the time it happened but it was quite cloudy so I couldn’t get any clear photos of it. I was able to take photos of the full cold moon on the day it was its fullest which is what I really wanted. It also marks the last one of the year so it is a nice way to end 2018.

I’ve taken many photos of the moon for many years now. This year I bought myself a super telephoto lens so I can get those extra close shots. The camera I used is the Nikon D800 with the Nikon 200-500mm lens mounted on a Vanguard Alta Pro 263AB Tripod.

The moon rotates just like the Earth does. Today my mom asked me if I have ever noticed that my photos of the moon are of its different sides. So I looked back at a few of those and guess what, I do! Isn’t that cool?!

Let’s start off with cameras. There is no right or wrong answer when choosing a camera brand. They are all great. You can say the same thing about cars and other items. I currently use Nikon but there is nothing wrong with Canon or Sony.

I started off with a Nikon 35mm SLR film camera then worked my way to a Nikon DX crop DSLR and eventually upgraded to a Nikon FX Full Frame DSLR. Start with what you can afford, a camera is only as good as the user.

Most professional DSLR cameras are sold with just the body, so you will need to buy lenses. Some companies will package the body with the lens like on Adorama or B&H Photo Video.

The faster lens are better overall with low light, hand-held, and more. And with that, they will cost more as well. 1.2 would be the fastest then 1.4, 1.8, 2.8 in most lenses.

I love photography gear, gadgets and all other kinds of gear. I can talk about it forever. Always wanting to know what is out there and learn about it.

Depending on the photography you are doing, you may need an external flash. I prefer the Nikon one to use with my Nikon camera but there are great off brand flashes that work with your type of camera, like the Yongnuo.

Camera bags, oh what could I say about camera bags… love them. There are so many choices, it is hard to choose but sometimes you need different ones depending on the occasion, event, and how much gear you need to carry.

Using a GoPro on Peak Design Capture Clip is an awesome way to quickly be hands-free from your camera to use other things.

I use it for my GoPro on Peak Design capture clip to get first-person perspective videos and to mount my DSLR when I’m not using a sling.

It was a cloudy morning but that just added some moodiness to my photos. It looked like it was going to rain out in the Atlantic Ocean.

I’ve been using my GoPro lately to capture videos of me walking and photographing on the go. It captures my view along with my camera in the shot a few times. I mount the GoPro on Peak Design – Capture which is on my Peak Design EveryDay Sling Bag or EveryDay Backpack.

In the video below, I went walking on Hollywood Beach to take some photos of the beach shoreline. I was using my EveryDay Sling to carry an extra lens and accessories. You can see my Nikon DSLR along with a Peak Design tripod plate, BlackRapid Strap, and Misift Vapor Smartwatch.

The beach had quite a lot of seaweed all along the shore. This is usually not the case for this beach in the past.

I love watching the shorebirds waiting for food to come up along the shore. They are always so entertaining. They are very aware of their surroundings. They quickly move as someone comes close to them.

The GoPro on Peak Design is probably one of my favorite things.

Hi there. Today I’m going to talk about Peak Design‘s latest Kickstarter campaign: Peak Design Travel Line: Travel Backpack + Packing Line. It is a new 45 liter backpack that is perfect for traveling a day trip or even a week trip, depending on how you travel.

I haven’t seen in person or received mine yet so this is just my review on reading and watching all their videos about this new line. The photos shown are from Peak Design. However, I do own their other products like their EveryDay Backpack and Sling, Field Pouch, Capture Clip, and more. So from experience on their other products, I totally trust their product quality and design.

The Backpack will hold 3 small packing pouches or 3 small camera cubes. Or it can hold 1 small packing or camera plus 1 medium packing or camera. It can hold 1 large camera pouch.

The pouches go in the back of the bag for secure access. It is also the main panel of the bag. The front access has smaller organizational panel, which has lots of pockets and expanding volume zipper.

They really thought this bag out. There are clips to keep the camera pouches in the backpack from slipping if it was a small or medium o. the top. I really like that they added side access doors for the camera pouches so I don’t have to open the whole panel. The fact that the camera pouches can be used in various ways with those dividers really makes happy. It means I can carry all kinds of lenses and cameras.

I’m really excited for that tech pouch, too. I love carrying all kinds of techy gear with me so being able to have them organized in one spot is amazing. I saw in a video today that they added loops on the outside so I can add anchors to attach my sling.

Their videos really help show you all kinds of variations you can use this bag and pouches for what you need to travel with. I’ve watched all of them to learn more about this line, even after supporting the campaign. (They may even squeeze in some pro tips in them.)

There are 2 color options: black and sage. That sage looks really nice. Well black looks good too.

There are various ways of packing this bag up depending on where you are going, whether you need more clothes or camera gear, plus wash kit, tech pouch and more. This is what makes Peak Design stands out to me. The versatile ways you can use their bags. They might have more gear options towards photographers but their bags can be used without camera gear too, especially this backpack and their everyday line.

I can’t wait to get this new line so I can use it for traveling and even just for one of my photoshoots. I can even attach their sling to a camera cube and use that by itself.

If you have been wanting their Everyday 5L sling, they are releasing it in Sage on their kickstarter. That color is really nice and unique from just black.

Smugmug Online Storage And Galleries

I take a lot of photos for myself and others like family, friends, and clients. Each camera gets better, which then means the file sizes get larger with better quality. The fact that I can have unlimited space means I can upload everything and not have to worry about losing space or having to upgrade accounts or find a new online cloud.

Smugmug online storage is safe, easy to use, and lasts forever.

I created my website, online galleries, and photos storage with Smugmug and never looked back. I can customize themes, edit galleries, and more. They even have an app for easy upload.

I can add as many photos as I want and separate each into various galleries that fit. I have different galleries for nature, landscape, waterscape, client photos which I can keep secure and private for them, models, flowers, architecture, events, sports, art, sky, moon, animals and much more. Within each category of galleries, I can create specific ones by type, date, etc. The possibilities are endless with Smugmug. I highly recommend them for your online cloud for backing up your photos that you don’t want to lose.

Charleston South Carolina

Earlier this year I went on a trip to Charleston, South Carolina. I was mainly in the historic district area.

The photos I added to this blog is just a small portion of the places I passed by and visited in Charleston. Everywhere I went was walking distance to the hotel I stayed at, which made it very convenient to not have to uber/lyft/taxi to places.

I really loved all the architecture everywhere. There was so much history, it was a lot to take in, plus lots of photo taking.

It was January time so the trees either had no leaves or various colors of leaves, which makes it great as being in South Florida, I either see green, brown or nothing at all.

There were quite a lot of people around the fountain but I was able to get clean photos of it.

I thought this door with the doorstep was just so cute. I love the brick wall.

Rainbow Row is definitely a place to see when you read about Charleston, South Carolina.

I was lucky enough to be able to take photos with just one car in front of the buildings. The street wasn’t busy either with cars driving by so it made it that much better and safer.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens

This looks like a scene right out of the movie The Notebook. There are parts of the movie filmed in South Carolina but unfortunately I didn’t note them down before visiting, maybe next time.

I just love seeing reflections of nature in the water.
