The moon is quite a spectacular astronomical body that orbits the Earth. It is amazing how it has many phases and have special events for us to see. When I say special events, I mean those nights that we see it pass behind the Earth into its shadow (lunar eclipse), or when it gets closer to the Earth that it looks larger in size (supermoon).

On August 20, 2013, there was a third full in a four full moon season so that one is called a Blue Moon. As soon as I heard there was a rare event happening in the night sky, I make sure to get my camera, telephoto zoom lens and tripod ready for action.

On September 8, 2014, there was a supermoon that was also called a harvest moon. A harvest moon is a full moon that happens closest to autumnal equinox.

Another rare event was the Supermoon of 2015. It was not only a supermoon but it was a total lunar eclipse as well. A total lunar eclipse is also called a blood moon as it has a reddish tint. This Supermoon Blood Moon Total Lunar Eclipse happened on September 27, 2015.

The supermoon that I captured in 2016 was on November 13, 2016.

There was only one appearance of a supermoon in 2017. It was just this past weekend on the night of December 3rd, early December 4th.

I can never get enough of looking up at the sky and watching the moon. It just makes me realize how big the universe is, don’t you agree? The Earth is just one piece in the large universe.
